Switching City
I came across this entry into an international master plan design competition in the city of Åndalsne. The architectural firm Jagnefalt Milton proposed the whole city be on rail tracks, existing tracks as well as new rail roads being built. The whole city, including Hotels, public swimming pools and a concert hall, all roll around the city depending on seasons and situations. Not only is it quite a fun idea, its flexible and doesn't require the city to build public squares or walkways. The presentation perspectives are really good as well and i think possibly helped the designers win the competition!

Mosstika
Hungarian artist, who goes by the name of 'Mosstika' is the creator of all of this street art. Currently living and working in Brooklyn, NYC she creates 'green' graffiti with moss, a much more eco friendly alternative to some graffiti. The artists main aim is to bring a bit of greenery to the streets and remind people there is nature outside of the city. I think its a really nice approach to street art, its not harsh or in your face and its natural, so what's not to love!

The Real Good Experiment
I was browsing random websites looking for something interesting to blog about and came across The Real Good Experiment. Its an experiment set up by the furniture design company Blu Dot and their 'Real Good Chair'. They basically left a random bunch of their chairs dotted about New York City and set up gps systems on the chairs and had camera crews and hidden cameras waiting in watch of who would pick the chairs up and when. This resulted in the chairs travelling all over New York to lots of different types of peoples and homes. The experiment was something fun, different and I guess kind of a 'feel good' project. Not only did a lot of New Yorkers gain a new chair, but the company too gained a lot of media coverage, and on their first anniversary of their store being open they premiered this video montage of the whole thing!
The company was created when three college friends who had the same passion for art and design wanted to create affordable furniture that allowed them to bring good design to as many people as possible. There's a light heartedness to the company I like and they have a good sense of humour and don't seem to take themselves too seriously which I find much more interesting than your run of the mill typical over priced artsy furniture companies you see all the time. They even toboggan with their furniture! How fun would it be to work for Blu Dot?! Watch them here!

Unhappy Hipsters
Its currently 3.07am and i'm still awake. Instead of trying to sleep i'm doing the clever thing and looking at random fashion/interior design websites, woohoo! I just found a new site, unhappy hipsters which has some really inspirational images from around the web, as well as funny little captions alongside them, something i've never seen before! Here's an example of some of the pictures on the site:

one of my favourite captions... "She was generous with her Conté Colour carré crayons, but her attempts at mind control made play dates awkward."

la mode.
Since last year I spent a lot of my money on fashion magazines I have decided this year to be more economical and cut down a bit, so instead i'm going to read more into fashion online instead, through fashion orientated blogs, of which i'm already a follower of quite a few! And obviously some fashion sites such as vogue and style. I may not dress as high fashion as some but hey, the pictures are pretty to look at! And sometimes qute inspiring, even out with the fashion world. Therefore I have decided to keep a hold of images i find and particularly like and post them on here from time to time. Something pretty to look at if anything!!

Grow a beard for Belgium.
I was browsing through the BBC news website and came across this, 'Grow a beard for Belgium' appeal by actor Poelvoorde. Now I'll be the first to admit I don't know a lot about the Belgian Government, and maybe therefore I shouldn't comment on the situation but I really don't get the whole not shaving for a cause thing. It happened back in November (or Movember as it was cleverly called!) to raise awareness for prostate cancer, and I'll admit it was pretty widely spoken about, but surely there are better things to do than to just stop shaving for a while! Raising awareness is important, obviously but should more effort not be put into solving the overall problem? Maybe things like Movember bring some humour into otherwise pretty serious subjects, which is never a bad thing, and I can see how it may link with the charity, supporting men and their battle against prostate cancer. But the Belgian government and beards?! I don't see the link! Maybe the problem will be solved faster with more serious methods and ways to reach out to the citizens of Belgium.

2011 Will Be The Best Year Ever!
Well Happy New Year! Ive been pretty absent from this blog for a while now and one of my 'resolutions' for this year is to be a bit more organised, and i plan to bring this into blogging too! Heres hoping anyway! I was looking through freshome.com, one of my favourite little interior design websites and came across the cutest calender! It's available on the etsy website, another of my favourite sites and is all about positive thinking for the coming year!
I know its just a calender but its nice to think positive like this! I had a pretty good year last year and im all set to have another good one, be productive, be organised and be happy!
Happy 2011!
